BOROUGH HONOURED AT VFL & VFLW AWARDS NIGHT

Last night saw the VFL & VFL clubs come together to celebrate the 2024 season at the VFL & VFLW Awards Night. The annual event recognises the individual achievements from across the season with the JJ Liston (VFL) and Lambert-Pearce (VFLW) Awards being the highest honours for the Best & Fairest for their respective seasons.

The night was a successful one for the Borough and a fantastic wrap-up of our 150th season with five people being recognised on the night.

Billy Gowers was officially awarded the Jack “Frosty” Miller Medal for the most goals kicked in the VFL in 2024.  Billy bagged 50 goals this season and took out the award in a tight contest that went down to the last game of the season.

Billy’s season was further recognised with his naming in the VFL Team of the Year alongside Tom Highmore who was also selected.  Gowers and Highmore finished one and two in the club Best & Fairest last Friday night, so it was fitting to see their selection in the VFL Team of the Year.

Our VFLW team also had two inclusions in VFLW Team of the Year with Lauren Caruso and Ava Seton being selected.  Seton & Caruso were also awarded the Best & Fairest & runner-up respectively at the Borough Awards Night last Friday.

One of our longest-serving volunteers was also honoured last night receiving the prestigious Alex Gillon Award which is given to the Volunteer of the Year.  All clubs are invited to nominate people for this great honour and the AFL then selects a winner based on its criteria.  We were thrilled when our own Jenny Tserkezidis was announced as the 2024 recipient.

Jenny has dedicated her time to the Borough for over 30 years.  From her early days where she would come to the ground with her mother through to today where she runs our match day merchandise and leads the Heritage Society (along with Ron Bedford), Jenny has been a loyal and dedicated volunteer, and we are so grateful for her service and are delighted to see it recognised across the wider football community.

“It was a great night for the football club and a positive note to wrap up our 150th season.  It is wonderful to see not only our players, but our volunteers recognised at the highest level” commented PMFC General Manager Sophie Williams.
